Helping your people generate ‘mental health wealth’.

An undeniable positive of recent times is the clear shift in focus and energy towards our mental wellbeing. More and more of us are recognising just how important it is to think about our mental health in the same way that we do our physical health. If we look at our brain in the same way as we do one of our muscles, then we know we need to work out our brain in order to build strength and facilitate growth. With consistency and dedication, this magical ‘build’ happens in the mind, just as it does in the physical body.

Mental health hasn’t appeared overnight. We all have it. We always have, and we always will. What matters is how we look at it, how comfortable we feel talking about it and how able we are to get to grips with what might be off balance.

We are not robots and we are not machines. We are full beings with hearts and souls. We need to look at our whole selves and ensure we are taking care of more than just our physical wellbeing. We’re complex creatures and focusing just on one half of the equation is an outdated approach that needs to change.

So, where do we start? How do we ‘look after ourselves’ in a way that bolsters true sustained mental wellbeing and, for those of us working and building careers, how do we carve time from our ever-busy diaries to invest in ourselves in a way that is meaningful? Honestly speaking, from years of personal experience, it’s not going to happen without discipline and commitment. That bit is on us. But what if your company cared about you so much that they offered you the time and space to work on you – on anything that matters to you – on company time and dime. Oh, and without the fear of it ‘going on file’? That’s game changing. That’s what fifty50 can offer.

I’m proud to bring to market a fresh, clean and forward-thinking proposition that supports employers to invest in their people in a way that truly matters. Companies offering access to balanced nutritious food and gyms alongside health insurance are doing great things for the physical part of us. The next step is to balance this with equal support for mental health in the workplace. Indeed, our vision is one where all companies value mental health in the way they do physical health and we’re called fifty50 because we’re passionate about restoring this balance and helping people to generate their own ‘mental health wealth’.

At fifty50, we passionately believe in coaching and the value it brings to creating, safeguarding and strengthening positive mental health. We provide the time and space where challenges can be discussed openly, in confidence and without judgement. Our team of talented fifty50 coaches work to empower and support movement into action, helping employees to fully own their mental health. The result? A more engaged, resilient, creative and happier workforce. The cherry on top is a juicy one. Latest figures from Deloitte show that investment into workplace mental health support pays real dividends, to the tune of £5 for every £1 invested*. Now that’s good business.
